This presentation will follow the journey of the local Placement Services Team in their partnering and promotion of Foster Carers, Respite Carers and Carer Mentors in the Great Southern, using the Signs of Safety Framework in an innovative way.
This was achieved by using the newly established Great Southern Children in Care Focus Group, some committed Departmental Team Members, and a great deal of imagination. The Children in Care Focus Group was encouraged, through the Questioning Approach, to map their own ‘Danger Statements’ and ‘Wellbeing Goals’. This allowed carers and workers alike to clearly articulate their worries for the Caring Community in the District, and look at what the Community needed to demonstrate to show the worries were being managed. This presentation will also show the ‘Next Steps’ that were taken to create change, diversity and energy in the Community.
The Carers were enthusiastic supporters of the Signs of Safety Framework and this process has been exciting and inclusive for staff and carers alike, with support from the children in care themselves. It has been a group initiative, and we would like to share our approach and success with the broader Departmental community. (Great Southern District)
